places to go, people to see: kedd life style fair

For the design inclined, strolling through Toronto’s King East Design District (KEDD) always seems like a good idea. A bright blue modular chair proudly displayed in a window can steal our hearts one minute, a frilly grey toss cushion the next. Tomorrow, the neighbourhood will become even more colourful.

On Saturday, September 26th the district will flaunt its creative side during the KEDD Life Style Fair. Now into its second year, the fete is considered to be Toronto’s largest public festival celebrating modern design. From 10am to 5pm, King Street East will be outfitted with vibrant installations curated by local artists and designers.

Here’s a sneak peek of three installations you can expect to find on Saturday:

DesignAgency at East United Condos
Step into the East United Condos showroom at 95 Berkeley Street, dressed to perfection by Toronto’s DesignAgency, for an interactive installation that will bridge the gap between the city’s urban and natural landscape. Visitors will be encouraged to write a message on a post-it note before sticking it onto a large grid. As the day comes to an end, the full two-image masterpiece will be revealed (think of each post-it as a pixelated puzzle piece).

Gary Taxali at DOM Interiors
Toronto artist Gary Taxali, whose zany illustrations are often classified as “reinvented pop art”, will once again put his creative stamp on this year’s festival. Head to DOM Interiors at 58 Berkeley Street to catch glimpse of his work. If what he did last year is any indication, expect to find eccentric installations both inside and outside the showroom.

Jenn-Air-Toronto-ShowroomPhotography by Ryan Emberley

Glen Peloso and Jamie Alexander at Jenn-Air Canada
Feel like test-driving a shiny new appliance or two? Make your way to the Jenn-Air Experience Centre at 225 King Street East. On Saturday, you’ll be one of the first to visit the luxury brand’s sleek new showroom designed by the ever-talented Glen Peloso and Jamie Alexander. The space (attached to Peloso Alexander Interiors) is decked out with fully functioning kitchens showcasing some of Jenn-Air’s must-have products, such as the Obsidian fridge that boasts a stunning black interior.
